Inspired by the 16th century Venetian courtesan, Veronica Franco, the enigmatic poet and intellectual, who studied music, art and dance. Veronica Franco was famous in her own time and became one of the highest ranking courtesans, or cortigiana onesta. She was said to embody sophistication, intellect and female independence, which contrasted with a powerful sexual influence that fascinated many powerful, wealthy men at court, and intimidated others.
